Anatomy of a Wave:
Wavelength (λ): The distance between successive crests. Wavespeed (v): The speed at which a wave travels. Wave speed is related to wavelength, frequency, and period by the equation wave speed = frequency x wavelength. Crest: The point on a wave with the maximum value of upward displacement within a cycle. Trough: The opposite of a crest, so the minimum or lowest point in a cycle. |
